Welcome to Our Blog and The First Meeting

Welcome to this project blog that documents our participation in ‘Floating Land’ 2017.  We are two artists, a husband and wife, living in Noosa, Queensland Australia. Although we’ve worked together on writing and performance projects in the past, and have always been there in the background as helpers for each other, this is our first joint visual arts project.

Jim began exploring some ideas with housing, architecture, and wooden models in 2016. One of those ideas was building rustic, unfinished houses from sticks, so when expressions of interest were called for participating in Floating Land in 2017 this was a starting point for  discussions at our first meeting on April 2nd.

While Jim tested the practical logistics of our ideas Judy began writing our submission. In the end we proposed an installation titled ‘Against the Tide’.

A small ‘village’ of stick dwellings floats in the river, reminding us of a simple life we have lost, of dwellings and lives lived in tune with Nature. The little houses stand defiantly in the face of urbanization, modernity and progress; as the name suggests ‘Against the Tide’. Can we find this connection again, or will it be forced on us?
