review 1: John McConnell meets Bryan Simmons in the park. While taking his daughter Beth to play with her new friend Jeremy, Bryan's nephew.John and Bryan formed a rapid friendship and become aware of the new feelings they seem to be developing but both need to move forward from the difficult things that had happened to them.John's wife died and Bryan's past ... The story is well written ... I will make you cry and also feel warm inside. Dialogue with the kids is pretty good and funny. I would to have seen an epilogue to give it a little bit of more closure but it is a good book to read. I will rate 4.5 stars.
review 2: This was a solid 'meh' for me. I mean, I liked it - the writing was solid, the story was good and I connected with the characters. It was a slow burn r... moreomance with the actual smex not happening until about 50 pages from the end. And I liked that - both characters had issues that needed dealing with before jumping into sexy times. I guess what kept this from being really good for me was the fact that there was very little conflict outside of the two personal issues both characters had. While this can work for a lot of stories in this instance I found reading most of the book to almost be like reading a diary - with a recitation of daily events, some reference to feelings and/or conflicts but not a lot of deep explorations. And the conflict that was there did not negatively impact the character's relationships.So, not a whole lot of excitement or struggle in the relationship. Which again, is not bad but because of that it didn't move the book into a 4-star category for me.I will gladly read any other full length novels this author publishes. less
