review 1: Just to be difficult, I think I'd give this book 4.5 stars. I LOVE the idea of a princess who sneaks off on covert missions that involve scaling castle walls, wrestling hungry monsters, and dashing off fearlessly to help others. I also love the name of her unicorn/horse, Frimplepants. However (not to sound like an old fart), I wish he wasn't renamed to "Blacky" when he becomes her ninja sidekick. I think that's tacky and uncreative. Aside from that, I really enjoyed this book. I think grades K-3 would enjoy listening to it or trying to read it solo.

... moreesy (but classic) superhero plot made extra-girly. But at the same time, I think that kids will love the story. There's intrigue, secrecy, monster battles, ponies, and a sparkly tiara. It's got all the right stuff. I appreciated the characters, too; they're not the flat, uninteresting characters that are common in other easy-readers. They're fun and fascinating (even the pony!). As a whole? I recommend it. It's adorable. less
