review 1: A sweet story about a girl "coming of age". She's graduated high school at the top of her class, ready to enter college and embark on a career as a doctor. But on the evening of her graduation, the bottom drops out of her world and everything she thought she knew about her life and her family has been a lie. During the summer, she discovers life - life as she never knew it, with friends, a job, family, a first romance. She also discovers what it means to really live. I loved this story - just wished there would have been more to the blossoming romance between Finn and Jesse. Maybe there will be a sequel. A perfect read for young girls and teenagers.
review 2: Finn has never really lived her life. Her dad died when she was two, her mother will not talk a
... morebout it, and she does not know any of her other family. She’s earned valedictorian status by spending her nights studying. No friends, no parties, no fun. On the day of her graduation, she finds cards sent by her grandparents hidden in her mother’s closet. Having been told that her grandparents didn’t want anything to do with them, Finn runs away to South Carolina to get a taste of a life that she has never had. There she finds out who she really is and how she wants to live her life. This is a really good read for someone just starting high school. It has a lot of great points that I think I would have enjoyed as a teenager. But for adult-me, while I really liked the story that McCrimmon was trying to tell, I could not get into this one. I kept reading because of the great plot but I could not really relate to Finn. She was very brave and took a lot of risks that I do not think I could have done at that age, but she did not feel emotionally involved and therefore I was not emotionally involved. The surprise at the end of the book should have been emotional but it didn’t feel like she was too concerned. That being said, the world that McCrimmon created is top-notch and the secondary characters create a fun atmosphere. less

A little predictable, a little "telling, not showing" but still a fun read.
