Television: Sense8 Finale

Sense8 a Netflix original,  lgbtq+ inclusive sci-fi drama, about eight people from all over the globe who are telepathically connected (in what’s known as clusters), was abruptly cancelled by the Netflix company itself.

Fans were outraged and decided to take action. Some created hashtags, others sent letters, and created petitions to the company. Although many people backed these efforts Netflix wasn’t very convinced. According to metro.co.uk, Ted Sarandos the boss of Netflix stated how the reason the show was pulled was due to a ‘not large enough’ audience to support the show’s cost. In addition, Sarandos stated how great show and how passionate the audience was, but not large enough to back the monetary cost of something that big even on their platform.

Netflix released a response to the fans outcry, which read: “To our Sense8 family. We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8,” it later highlighted, “We wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t.” If that wasn’t a tear jerker to most fans, the response concluded with, “Thank you for watching and hope you’ll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever”

After numerous messages directed to Netflix the fans were heard. On the Sense8 Facebook page it was announced, “We decided to give Sense8 fans the ending they totally deserve.” Sense8 will have one last episode that will be two hours in length to conclude the Netflix series.

With the eight protagonists, Nomi, Lito, Wolfgang, Will, Kala, Riley, Capheus, and Sun, capturing the main antagonist, Whispers, in the season 2 finale fans are probably on the edge of their seat to find out the outcome of this event.

Stars: Toby Onwumere, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Brian J. Smith.

The behind the scenes for the finale was posted December 9, 2017. The video highlights many aspects of the characters opinions and events of the episode. To me as a fan I  can’t wait until 2018 to watch the bittersweet finale. Do you think the Sense8 cluster get their happy ending or fall back into the hands of Whispers and the evil corporation, BPO, supporting him?
