review 1: This is an intensely personal collection. By reading it, you grapple first-hand with divorce, with the difficulty of being left, alongside the poet. As such, the act of reading these poems pushed me toward an inherently different sort of engagement than I expected, causing me to reflect on similar experiences from my past, and to contemplate on how we individually deal with loss.Like most poetry, I'm sure this collection speaks differently to each reader, depending upon his or her own formative experiences. It speaks on a poignantly intimate level, however, and should not be approached lightly. I thoroughly enjoyed "Stag's Leap," and would recommend it to others--though its very pointed way of dealing with the fallout of divorce makes me hesitate to presume to pass it alon... moreg to those who would likely be most affected by the poetry. That hesitation in itself points to the powerful intimacy and strength of feeling evoked by these poems.
review 2: All at once an intimate (at times almost painfully so) and introspective window into one woman's divorce. The poems here are a delicate, forthright, and heart-wrenching exploration as the poet struggles to find solid ground after the collapse of such a cornerstone relationship. She doesn't blame or point fingers but instead approaches the subject with a sense of eyes-open wisdom few possess. If you're interested in poetry at all, I highly recommend this book. Very powerful and artfully written. less
