review 1: Get downright dirty with Sri Lankan cricket in this very absorbing book by Shehan. The only challenging aspect of the book is the details of cricket which are impossible to avoid unfortunately making this a pretty difficult read for non cricket enthusiasts like me. But the details were unavoidable owing to the cricket based plot of the book. Otherwise the book is a great read making me laugh time and again. It also provides many deep and insightfully nuances of the Sri Lankan culture for which I am very grateful off. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the ending of the book, although details of cricket proved slightly off putting at times. Must read for anyone interested in Sri Lanka.
review 2: A fascinating read if you are familiar with Sri Lanka, cricket in Sr
... morei Lanka and Sri Lankan English. The two main characters Wije and Ari were a hoot. They were realistic enough to make me nostalgic for old uncles and their heated conversations on cricket, politics , religion and inevitably the war - topics covered around most drinking tables. The book light in its prose and haphazard in its organization depict an inattentive mind. It can be confusing in places. The author creates enough mystery to make the reader wonder if certain events portrayed actually happened (distinguished by those which we know happened), and the clever methodology of interjecting interposed first/family names of known figures or names which rhyme with actual individuals made me want to get google cracking. The book offers some food for thought, offers some points for introspection of and on the war but it also does indulge in accepted stereotyping and finger -pointing. Yet, if takenin the context of Wije, these stereotypes and finger-pointing can be understood and waved off. On a while, it is delightful read with a depth and soul that can catch the subject- familiar reader by pleasant surprise. Definitely worth the read, highly recommended! less

Somebody had said that this was "The most tweetable book". I agree. Hilarious. Witty. Smart. Epic!
