review 1: When Maggie is laid off from her Silicone Valley job at ArGoNet software, she holes up in a little used book store reading romance novels. In the hopes of getting her job back, she decides to see if she can get the bookstore to become successful and uses an old book that had been used to pass messages between lovers to get a buzz going.I love to read about bookstores and people who love books, so I gave this a try. It's a sweet story about a woman trying to find her way . . . but the romance part seems to keep getting dropped and the book seems to drag.
review 2: This is the second "quaint bookstore in Sillicon Valley" book I have read. Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore was the first, which had a touch of fantasy with a dash of geekery.I consider The Moment of E
... moreverything as a rom-com with a touch of drama sister. The novel presents the interesting setup - a young thirty something spends her time in a used bookstore, reading romance novels as she tries to ease back into the Silicon Valley corporate setting. An opportunity to revisit the classics gives way to having a book with notes written by two souls who may have found the other. It's You've Got Mail, only the medium and the setting got interchanged - old fashioned letter writing in Sillicon Valley. As she tries to uncover more, she navigates through her life - past and present, to at least give some clarity about her future. The writing and story telling is great, with realistic characters. There is the unexpected twist, which made me eager to know the other side of the story. A reconmended read for those who have love affairs with books and bookstores. less
