review 1: This was another one of those "insert monster into beloved classic literature" books. It wasn't as well done as some others I have read, but I enjoyed reading it (especially at Halloween). It started out well, with Jane growing up with her relatives that in this version, weren't only disapproving and cruel, but also blood sucking vampires as well. She then moved on to Lowood school, which was also fun. In this version, not only did dozens of girls at the school there perish from sickness and poor living conditions, the owner of the school reanimated their corpses as zombies bound to do his bidding. Things stuck closer to the original story once Jane moves to Thornfield, which is probably disappointing and boring for some, but I always love to read Jane Eyre so I actua... morelly didn't mind too much. (The crazy woman in the attic in this version turns out to be not only insane but a werewolf as well!) Although the "monster" part of this monster classic was a little uneven, I liked it!
review 2: I've always been a little more Team Bronte than Team Austen (I know - gasp!, right?). As much as I love Elizabeth Bennett, I think I prefer Jane Eyre. She's just a little darker. I've always thought that "Jane Eyre" was a spooky story on its own, and this version, which adds vampires, zombies, and werewolves into the mix, is a fun diversion. I love that Erwin stuck to the original story and just added some hilarious plot twists - like Helen Burns coming back as a zombie, Crazy Bertha not only being nutzo, but also a werewolf, etc. My only small gripe is that sometimes the language doesn't quite fit in with the original writing - Bronte didn't use a bunch of contractions, and when it's the "new" story, Erwin uses too many of them. But all in all, this made me laugh out loud several times at the witty storyline changes. Fun reading. less

Not the best book ever but fairly entertaining. I really just want to reread the real book now.

I read most of the horror remakes of Dickens classics. It was one way of reading the classics.
