review 1: I sure wish I had met vampire and Dark Hunter, Kyrian, before I had the misfortune of encountering the sissified vampires in the "Twilight" series. I would have been a fan of vampire fiction long ago! Lots of action, interesting and engaging characters, and a fast-paced plot that makes the pages fly by, this book was highly entertaining, despite being bogged down by a multitude of sex scenes that did nothing to enhance the quality of the story or storytelling. Amanda Devereaux and Kyrian will hold you spellbound as, together, they create a formidable enemy for the dark creature out to destroy them both. A great read!
review 2: An awful lot of fun, with a snappy sort of wit that doesn't mind tipping over into the silly, and two extremely likable characters w
... moreith some sparkling chemistry. I picked this one up to get myself out of my reading slump, and it certainly worked, providing me with a quick, smooth drink of entertainment, like a milkshake: goes down nice and easy, maybe feels a bit guilty afterwards, but you're not sorry you had it.I loved Amanda, and, for me, a romance is only as potent as my ability to identify with or simply like the heroine (well, and being attracted to the male lead is important, as well, but so few people seem to actually care about female characters unless they're ripping them apart. For me, they don't have to be earth-shattering, just enjoyable to read about; there's a large spectrum of female personalities I enjoy!) I liked the idea of the fish-out-of-water storyline, with Amanda being remarkable because she keeps her cool under pressure and the insane situations she finds herself in. I didn't even mind when they gave her SUPER-PSYCHIC POWERS! Because, why not? Ordinary women can find something extraordinary about themselves. The romance was wonderfully done, and the sex pretty damn smokin'. In particular, I love the methods Amanda, at her naughtiest, employs to try to help Kyrian overcome the memories of his past. Now that's a woman with an imagination after my own heart. All that said, there are story problems that I couldn't, in the end, overlook. The fantastic setup, of Amanda being mistaken for her twin sister, is completely undermined by the denouement at the end, and a lot of that ends up feeling very sloppy, like Cliff's involvement. It's like she threw things in as she thought of them, and it ends up completely messy and, even for a book about ancient Greek vampires fighting one another, it becomes unbelievable, if just for the fact that it's mishandled, rushed, giving it a little bit of a 'and the kitchen sink!' sort of feel (but not in a good way.)Also, blond Greeks! Blond Greeks as far as the eye could see! Says the blonde Greek. Hey, I'm not unself-aware! And I'm not saying it's impossible, just fairly implausible. And I know that Julian is Aphrodite's son Kyrian, etc. etc. But Theone, too? Sighs. In the end, I got what I wanted from this book, and a little more, and that's all I could ask for! A fun, fun read. less

Night Pleasures was pretty good. I liked the typical paranormal romance pattern with the added elements of greek mythology on top of the darker mythologies I was already vaguely familiar with. I don’t think this series was the best of the genre by any means, but it was fun to read and I plowed through it in just a couple of hours. What I did like about the book that other paranormal romances sometimes mess up for me were the characters. While Kyrian was the obvious alpha brooding male lead, Amanda was kind of spunky and strong. He didn’t overpower her very much at all and it was Amanda who took the lead most times. I hate when paranormal romances pull the controlling alpha male thing and then treat the heroines as breakable dolls, little ones, or weaklings and I was glad that Night Pleasures did not do this. As a first book, it gave me just enough of the world to keep me interested, but I still have tons of questions about how things work. I think I’d read the other books in the series, especially because it seems as if people prefer the later books anyway. I liked the side characters and I imagine they’ll be the main characters in future installments, so that’s a good sign for me. Of course, like any paranormal romance with that kind of title, it is less of a Paranormal and more of a Romance, but I knew what to expect. Obviously, if you prefer paranormals that are more plot based like urban fantasies and just peppered with romance, Night Pleasures will be a bit over the top for you. But I think anyone who picks this up will know what tropes will be there, what to expect, and just how many times the characters will be sidetracked by their lust.

This is the first book in a long time that I've stayed up all night to finish. Yes it's fluff. Yes it's predictable. At least she created an interesting world and shed a new light on Greek gods in modern times. I like how it ties modern vampire lore into Greek mythology. It also explains how things that go bump in the night came to be in a new way that was completely unexpected. Which is really refreshing since all paranormal books seem to be the exact same thing over and over lately. The world was easy to follow and explained very well without being too distracting to the over all plot. The main characters were likable and some of the supporting characters even more so. Since this is a series I look forward to reading on and hopefully revisiting some of the supporting characters.
