review 1: I have said it before and I'll probably end up saying it a million more times before I go, but I really do love Sherrilyn Kenyon and the books that she writes. And while I started out with just the Dark-Hunter books, I am happily branching out into other areas and thoroughly enjoying the world that she creates. Sherrilyn is vivid in her story telling and very precise. There is no question what is going on or if she knows what she is doing. She has a way of drawing the reader into her world and showing them exactly what you mean. And once you start on the ride, you really can't stop. Oh you can certainly try, but it usually doesn't work that way and in all honesty, you don't want it to. You don't want the stories to end or the thrills to stop. These characters and the... moreir world become like a new home. And it is something that you cannot help but cherish and adore. The way that Sherrilyn writes, if I could be half as good, I would consider myself lucky. Without a doubt, if you haven't read anything by her, you should start now. Pick up one of her books, any of them and start in on an adventure you will never regret.
review 2: I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I like or dislike about it.I picked up this audio book on a whim at the library. I dunno - been curious for awhile about whether or not I'd like listening to a book on CD. haha - the technology has only been out there for oh, about a million years or so but whatever, I digress. The narrator. Yeesh. I'm not a fan. I dislike the falsetto he did to represent Zarya and the low rough gravely voice for the men. Okay, I really only liked listening to his voice when he slipped into true narration of a characters thoughts. At that point his voice became smooth and easy on my ears. This experience got me thinking and questioning a wide range of stuff like... Do I give each character there own voice/sound? I may have years and years ago though at this point I think I just visualize whose perspective I'm reading from and simply put myself in that role as I read. Hope that makes sense. Not sure it will. But since I'm such a selfish jerk and write these reviews more for myself than anything... haha! And Zarya? Absolutely the dumbest heroine ever. EVER! For being the leader of the resistance she was so whacked she had no control over her troops, no knowledge of wtf they were doing, and had no clue at any point about anything during this whole story. Her intellect; a shallow shallow pool. Nothing deep or noteworthy going on inside that chicks brain. Geezuz! I'm going to say it is a rare thing indeed for me to be so adamantly dismissive of a character but this chick? Ugh! Stooopid.I also wasn't much of a fan that Zarya was accepted so quickly into the ranks by Darlings group of friends/protectors/etc. They all knew his story, knew of all the treachery in his life and then about a minute and a half after meeting her they're disclosing his story.I've read almost all of Ms. Kenyon's books. I'd say she described and set the tone of this book in the introduction very well indeed. There was a near constant, circular repetition of dialog that quickly became obvious of its intent; Increase ones awareness of moral turpitude and stop it! It isn't fair. Its wrong. It hurts people. Which, of course is okay to an extent but some readers read to be entertained and simply don't need or want to be manipulated in such a way.I suppose some people would try to defend Ms. Kenyon's intent. That's cool and turnabout is fair play. But again, for my part - increasing awareness of thought can be done very tolerably once or twice in a story and in MHO doesn't need to be the premise of a book. The story could stand on its own very well. I do not recommend the CD. The book and my rant aside... well it's Ms. Kenyon after all and hell yeah! Read it and decide for yourself what you think about it. ;) less

And number 5 - still weak in the romance angle. Great fiction/fantasy.
