review 1: I love this series, but this book was not as good as the rest of them. This time we get to know Susie O'Brien (daughter of Jeff and Jo) and Mack Franklin (best friends with Will and Jake), who have been "not dating" for several books now. They've always been friends, but now Susie wants to step up their relationship. Mack's hesitant because he has some job issues with newspapers downsizing. Together they face some difficult decisions and have to decide whether to try to make a more serious relationship work. As always, there is a lot of interaction from other residents of Chesapeake Shores, and it's always nice to revisit with them. But Susie frustrated me with her constant fears and insecurities, justified as they might be. Mack was a rock, which was great, and we ... moreget to know him as a much stronger character than before. And the unbearable interference of well-meaning family members and friends drove me crazy. Susie was butting into her brothers' love lives, her brothers were interfering with hers, and Laila's father was incredibly intrusive. In addition, Jess got negatively involved, I thought, and it renewed my dislike of her, despite the last book's insight into her personality. In this book she merely came off as abrasive. So, a solid 3-star review, but definitely my least favorite of this series so far.
review 2: This was possibly my favorite of the entire series on the O'Brian clan. Unlike the others, this romance has been brewing for quite some time. Susie and Mack may rush through the formalities of a marriage, but the true development of their relationship is whether they can build a life with each with love and support. Despite the extenuating circumstances, their "problems" seemed more real to life than many of the others I've read in this series. less
