review 1: I really enjoyed this book and the way the reader can just vividly see what is going on with the tree turning the tables on the boy throughout life compared with the giving tree. This is a very hilarious book that readers should enjoy because of how the taking tree refused to budge or give in to the greedy boy during the boy's life. Really liked how the boy thought he could outsmart the tree and how his plan backfired!
review 2: The little boy in this story doesn't have any friends. He thinks a tree is his best friend, but he's wrong - the tree HATES the little boy. As you get to know him, you, too, will hate the little boy, then the teenager, then the man that the little boy becomes. He's despicable. The tree does its best to cater to the boy's whims (ev
... moreen though they are NOT friends), but the boy is impatient and rude. The tree is always happy to see the back of him. SPOILER!!!When the tree tries to fight back (finally!) "...the tree took the kid's hat and threw it in the river. And she took the kid's credit cards and ordered a bunch of DVDs she had no intention of watching. And she took the kid's cell phone and called the cops..." the boy takes revenge with a chainsaw. But the tree has the last word. Man, I hated that kid. You go, tree. less

For those of us who've always had issues with "The Giving Tree", this was fantastic!

A great book for teaching parody and satire to kids (or selfishness).

Interesting. Somewhat fun. OK for a parady.
