review 1: Name of the book: Sun Kissed (book 2)Author: Skyla MadiPages: 239Genre: FantasyReading level: 8-9 Exposition: (At first, I was confuse. I think because I've never read the first book. I also didn't know what this book was based on, i just started reading it) In the beginning of the book, the characters were introduced. Ruby is one of the main characters in the book. She is a goddess & half vampire because of her dad. Ruby also has the power to control the elements, which means - she can control fire. (She uses it often, but every time she uses it, she gets weaker. ) Ruby also gets her energy from the sun. She goes to Sage Sanctum, which is a school for gods, goddesses, and guardian angels. (No vampires) In this school, the guardians protects the goddesses and both cant fal... morel in love with each other. If a guardian angel and a goddess decided to break the higher powers rule (the higher power controls Sage Samctum, he's the most powerful in all their kind- nobody knows who he is), they will be banished and live with the humans. However, Ruby is in love with her guardian angel, Eli. He also liked her back. Conflict: The higher power knew about Eli and Ruby's feelings towards each other & he didn't like it. (In the middle-end of the book, he told Ruby why he banned goddesses & guardian angels to be with each other. When he was younger, he fell for a goddess. And the goddess left him for a guardian angel. From then on, he decided that guardian angels and goddesses can never be together. This is also the part where they found out that he's a vampire. A vampire, an enemy, is controlling Sage Sanctum. Climax: The higher power wanted Ruby and Eli to work for him. If they refused or failed the task, he will kill all the people Ruby cares about & love. That is when Eli decided that she will come with her, since he's her guardian angel. Eli wanted to be there to protect Ruby. Eli also called Mr Aleksandrov who is their teacher in Sage. They had a plan to rescue Eli and Ruby & attack the rest of the vampires. Ruby told Hunter about their plan, but Hunter decided to tell the higher power. (Hunter was Ruby's close friend in Sage. He used to be a god, but the higher power turned him into a vampire after chasing Ruby to the woods. He used to be in love with Ruby) Resolution: Eli and Ruby continued their journey to kill other vampires. The guardian angels also came , even if they knew that Luciia (the higher power) knew they were coming. During the fight, Eli was bitten and Hunter came to save his life. Ruby was also close into killing Luciia but she decided to just use her stake - she missed and Luciia had the chance to escape and fled. He warned Ruby that he's coming back for her and the people she loved. The only choice Ruby had was to leave Sage and everyone else. (Only way to keep all of them safe) Eli wasn't happy about it, as a matter of fact, he was heart broken. Ruby had a necklace that can make her look like someone else if she had in on. (Only works for vampires) She'll use the necklace to start all over again. Theme: I think the theme for this book is betrayal. I learned that no matter how close and strong your relationship is to a certain person, if they decided to choose someone else over you; you can't do anything else other than the fact that you're now alone. In the book, Ruby and Hunter had this strong bond that connected them. Ruby liked Hunter more than she should, and Hunter felt the same way. But by the time Hunter turned into a vampire, he chose to follow Luciia (the vampire who turned him) over Ruby. I can compare and contrast this book to Romeo and Juliet. (FORBIDDEN LOVE) Ruby and Eli had a love affair that they weren't suppose to have in the first place, because the higher power banned all Guardian Angels and Goddesses to fall in love. Only Gods were the ones allowed to be with Goddesses. For Romeo and Juliet, these two young lovers kept their relationship a secret. If their family knew about their relationship, there's a chance that both house will disown their children. The difference between them is that in Sun Kissed, everyone in Sage Sanctum were used to following the policy about Guardian Angels and Goddesses, but in Romeo and Juliet, they only kept their marriage because of their parents . (Capulets and Montagues never got along)
review 2: Well that sucked!!!! (just the ending:0 )Now that i have said that, i can move on. This is a great second book, Ruby and Eli just keep brining it. Due to Ruby's adventures, she has drawn the attention of the higher power. This is the person who rules all the gaurdians and goddess's. Ruby must now pay the consequences for all her impulsive actions and it is a hefty price. She must leave school and work for the protector.When this book starts it is three months after the first and Ruby has not seen or heard from Eli since then. I was thinking to my self no, no ,no. I hate it when they must go their own way. But never fear Eli shows up fairly quickly. Now there is the problem of Hunter, who is trying his hardest to be everything Ruby needs. He is just not Eli. I really liked Hunter and really didn't like where his story went,this was a shocker and not a happy one. I don't want to give too much away. This book seemed so quick or i read it really quick, either way, i need book 3. less
