review 1: Well this is a story that I wanted to love. It had great potential. But it is another series that wasn't marked a series. And that is frustrating, as this book does not have a happily ever after... or even a happily for now. At least I am hoping that is the case, otherwise I will find that much too aggrivating. Dark Wings features Lucas Cross, who used to be one of the "good guys" but has since been lured to the "dark side" and for whatever reason, he cannot seem to stay away from his former love. Violet Ashton is assigned to hunt a man named "Death", who just happens to be the man she once love. The man she once looked up to and admired above all. Well, let's just say that she isn't coping with this situation too well. She knows what is at stake and she tries to carry out... more her duties but circumstance continues to get in her way. Good vs. Bad. Will these two find their way back to one another? Well, I read it and I have no idea. Thus my frustration. Beyond that the story is interesting. There were a few places it drug on a bit but nothing too terrible. I liked it well enough but am undecided if I will continue with the story and series.
review 2: 3.75I really enjoyed this book. It will tug at your heartstrings, provide action, and will satisfy any paranormal lover.Violet and Lucas were once lovers. Not just lovers, but the love of each other’s life. However, destiny calls and the two are ripped apart and are now supposed to be enemies. Violet is strong. She’s a fighter. But, that’s just because she has built walls around her heart. After Lucas left, she decided she wasn’t going to let anyone get to close ever again, as a friend or a lover. Her focus is on hunting demons and being the best at what she does. All of that changes when she fails her mission: kill Lucas. She thought she had gotten over him enough to complete the job, but when she sees him again old feeling are awakened. What’s more is that she realizes that she has been living a shell of a life. She begins letting people in and actually starts enjoying life a bit.Lucas is now a demon. He’s very torn demon. He is constantly fighting against the evil inside of him and trying to preserve some of who he was. Regardless, he’s learned to live the life of a demon and has actually become comfortable with it. That is until he sees Violet again. She’s the woman he can’t let go. The reason he is so torn. He loves her; he hates her. He just doesn’t know anymore. The love and passion between these two build and ignite when it becomes impossible to ignore. The lengths Lucas will go to in order to protect his girl will make your heart sigh. I love these two together.The author has done a great job at pulling together a world of angels and demons, which reside and fight amongst humans. I think she not only wrote a great story, but she also created well rounded characters. This story is a lot more than fighting between the two sides, though. It’s also about relationships, old and new, and learning when it’s time to hold on or let go of those relationships. less
