review 1: So, another one of those forbidden love stories. Cliched as it is, it wouldn't have been that bad if there was an actual development of characters and plot. The author didn't take much time to describe the settings or even the characters' personality, everything is rushed and it was just dialogue and more dialogue. I felt like I was grading my Grade 5 students' work. Emotional scenes were not emotional as it was all "telling" and no "showing how the characters felt. Worse, every action by the teenagers, almost adults mind you, are ridiculously childish and immature. Let's ignore the petty cat fights and verbal insults, the fact that Milan had sold her friend out just for her own benefit is already telling of her character. No matter how nice she was. Childhood best friends ... moreturn bully was not explained. Infatuations are so badly described that it really felt like she wrote those segments just to drag things out a bit.The worst part was the la gauge and grammar. The author either didn't have an editor or the editor didn't do his/her job. There were spelling and punctuation errors littered throughout the book and there was s cub limited use of vocabulary! One particular thing that really got to me was that on a certain page, she used the word 'soon' THREE TIMES! My god! Couldn't she have used any other adverbs of time?!I don't know why I wasted hours reading this book. I'm not sure if I'm going to read the next book.
review 2: This book started out amazing but then the plot was just too rushed. Unlike other books with a similar plot line (student falls for trainer) similar to the Vampire Academy, Pure/half blood and Ondine series, the relationship between Ruby and Eli seemed rushed. The schooling was just too quick and the ending with the villain was also over before you knew it. This book had great potential but just was too rushed and underdeveloped. less
