review 1: I got this book for free and it sounded interesting so why not? It was not a bad book, I started getting into the story a bit but I felt like it skipped ahead a lot. I like the story of the immortal ones but then when they started adding in other paranormal characters I was not as impressed. I did enjoy it for the most part though. I liked the main character and will probably read the next book if I get the chance.
review 2: I've actually only read to page 8, and I am literally ready to put it back on my shelf. This is my second try at reading it, but both times, I've been totally turned-off by the writing. It is completely dull and flat. The prologue was intriguing, but from the first paragraph of "Emily Johnston" being unaccustomed to her new name and "spacin... moreg out", plus the "nice classmate" Summer, made me groan. Already, the book is heading down the path of "boring and unoriginal." What really got me, though, was the writing style. I feel like I could write a better version than S. L. Baum. Which is really sad, because I'm fairly sure the author is a relative of someone who attends my school, since I got the series for free from a raffle drawing. In fact, I may try re-writing the first chapters! And then send it to the author! And...I don't know what. But I have just about completely given up on this series; I am seriously shocked at the overall rating of almost 4 stars. And side note: what is with the annoying punctuation/grammar errors?? The dialogue was unrealistic, too. *SIGH* Oh well, at least it was free, or I would have returned it long ago. less
