review 1: Ugly tale of dysfunction in many forms. Alcoholic social worker (Pete) who tries to help children while his own daughter has gone missing. Psychopathic mountain man with one son to mess up who believes it is end times and is totally anti-establishment. I was amazed that Pete knew what to do with this guy and his kid in the end. Pete never really improves his lot in life, but still helps others. Lots of ugliness in this one and not something that I will recommend to very many people.
review 2: Pete is a social worker for FDS, trying to take care of endangered children in his Montana territory. He and his wife are divorced and it's when his wife moves to Texas with their daughter that his life begins to spin out of control ". . .there is nothing cannot hap... morepen to someone. That the world doesn't need permission, that there is not novel evil it won't embrace." Then he means Jeremiah Pearl and his young son, Ben, living in the Montana mountains. less
