review 1: For the first few chapters of this novel, I thought the plot had been ripped off from the first season of "American Horror Story." Then it took a turn of its own. High-brow it's not, but the story of a pregnant woman who finds herself in the grips of a house's dark secrets kept me reading. If you enjoy the slightly paranormal in a creepy half-contemporary/half-gothic setting, with well-developed characters who could be your next-door neighbors, you'll enjoy "Starter House."
review 2: I liked it. But I must be dense because the ending doesn't make any sense to me. I don't want to write any spoilers but how could Drew be Lex? How do thoughts or experiences become manisfestations? If someone else has read this and can explain it to me I'd appreciate it! Otherwise,
... more the characters were well written, likeable, the author did a great job of describing the house, I could easily visualize it. less

Terrible. Weird side plots, unbelievable and unlikable characters. I can't even finish this one.
