Heroes Come Home
review 1: The story is well written and the hero grovels a lot and I love to see a man in tears (and here it happens more than once) but, there's one, I can't think it's realistic to get over his betrayal in just one week even if there's still love between them and above all since she's soon leaving again at the end of her week leave. If a week was all they nedeed to solve the issues that led to his cheating they could have done the talking the week before her previuos leave. The story is good but a week is a too short timeline to fix something so important and hurtful and she's lived months of hurt and anger before confronting him being overseas.I believe he loves her even if he cheated and that she still does him in spite of what he did but since they have just a week to repair the... moreir relationship and save the marriage I feel the timeline rushed their actions because all had to be concentrated in those few days...
review 2: I bought this after reading the review over on The Misadventures of Super Librarian (Super Wendy to most folks). So glad I did -- the subject matter is touchy. It's not an insta-fall-in-love story. The couple is already married and have a four year old daughter. They were both in the military, but they decided they'd both leave at the end of their terms. Except the heroine has been "stop-lossed" which means that even though she's served her term, the army won't let her out and she's forced to stay overseas, leaving the husband to raise their daughter alone and learn how to be a civilian again. When you first meet the couple, you learn that the husband did the unthinkable in a romance -- he's cheated. Only once, but still that trust is broken. Soraya has handled the issue realistically -- she has the heroine facing the same internal battles I would face with such a revelation. And asks the same questions. And she's made the hero, with all his flaws, and that normally dealbreaker of infidelity, allowed the reader to see some of the conflict he was going through that led him to such a bad decision. I loved the skill of Soraya's writing as the couple faced the problems in their marriage and tried to decide whether it was worth saving. She's definitely become an autobuy author for me. less
