review 1: Voyage of the Heart was a Goodread's Giveaway book for me. I am very glad that I had a chance to read this book, I was unaware of just how many war brides there were from WWII. Voyage of the Heart is an easy read and follows the lives of four war brides that were among the first to officially arrive in the United States. There are many touching moments and made the reader think about what so many young women faced for love. The reason that I did not give the book a higher rating was that I felt the characters needed more development. The story doesn't become an "I can't put it down" as too many of the plot outcomes are predictable. If, however, you are looking for an easy read that makes you look at a historical event that has been forgotten and can tug at your heart s... moretrings this is the book for you. Thank you Goodreads.
review 2: In all honesty I thought I was going to hate this book. I decided to start it because i have been reading a lot of books from the WWII era, which is my favorite, and needed another one. My prediction was that it would be overly cheesy and the premise sounded like it could be a bit over the top with romance.Well I read it anyway and found out I kind of enjoyed it. It was interesting to read about these different situations that these women were in during a time of war and the way that played out in their lives. Each was from England and fell for American soldiers during a difficult time in history when I think it was the norm to cease the moment and not think to hard about the future, as it may be taken away from you at any moment. Some of these women really did find happiness that would last while others learned the consequences of quick decisions. Sometimes reading the different stories of the women made me frustrated and wanting to yell at them, "Stop! You are making a huge mistake!" Do people really take such big decisions as lightly as they seemed to?The writing wasn't the greatest that I have seen but I did find the characters to be very likeable for the most part and thought this was a good light read that though I probably won't feel the need to read again, I enjoyed it for what it was. less
