Judge Me Not
review 1: This book's prologue blew me away. I was so ready to read this book after that, and then... everything deflated. This book had a couple things going against it for me to begin with--a christian based (though not focused) redemption storyline, and the setting was in Ohio (I really really hate Ohio). To be fair, this was not a religiously preachy book. In fact, the good people in it are just that--good people. They simply happen to go to church. I also appreciate the hypocrisy the author displays in another character who goes to church but is a bad-type person. I simply would have avoided this story if I had known how much church is involved in it. Just my preferences though. It is very very sweet, and the two leads are so crazy cute together. I don't know if I'll re... moread the second book, but I might come back for the third.
review 2: I really liked Kay and Chase's story. First of all I love a tattooed bad boy, but who doesn't? :) But Chase really can be considered a bad boy. Drugs? Check. Liquor? Check. Girls? Check. Fighter? Check. What surprised me the most, but I enjoyed was just how deep his drug addiction went. I love that the author didn't just mention it and shove it aside. It happens. Chase gets extremely messed up, makes a stupid decision, and lands in prison. But even though all this was going on and he had made so many stupid choices. I couldn't help but feel for him. We all screw up at some point in life. Sometimes we are dealt a bad hand in life, and instead of instantly rising above it we let it pull us under until we hit rock bottom. I have heard before that in order to make a change in your life, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom so you can get back up. That is what I feel like happened with Chase. He hit bottom, but he decided that he wouldn't let his past mistakes get in the way of who he wants to be. Kay, sweet Kay. It took forever to get her secret out. Her past is tragic and sad. But her secret is what keeps her stuck in grief and guilt. I had begun to guess some of her secret but once it was out I never once thought she should feel guilty. My heart hurt for her. Chase and Kay together was just beautiful. The thing I loved the most is that their relationship didn't feel forced. It came naturally and we got to see most of that. It wasn't' "Oh we are best friends and spend all this time together" and we as a reader miss out. No, we get to see their relationship blossom. Their friendship has healed them both. I think they make each other feel safe. Oh and they have killer chemistry! I love when I book has build up and this one did not disappoint!! I am so ready for book 2! I hope we get to learn a lot more about Will, Chase's brother. **Copy provided by the Author in exchange for a honest review** less
