I do not know how this girl does it! Not only does she have a hot-ass boyfriend who is completely devoted to her with every fiber of his being, but she’s also constantly surrounded by his four stunning and lovable brothers. Now that is one lucky girl!
What’s it About?
Emily: I’m back in New York, ready to start my brand new life with Logan. Things are still up in the air between us, and it has been three months since I’ve even talked to him. But there’s one thing I’m certain of — I can’t live without him.
Logan: I need her like I need air. But now she’s back, and her dad and her ex-boyfriend are conspiring to keep us apart. We can do this, though. Can’t we? We can make this work? We have to, because I can’t imagine my life without her.
First Impressions
This book definitely had its sweet and funny moments, but overall I can’t say it was really necessary as a full-length novel. It’s a continuation of the story presented in book one, but it mainly deals with Emily and Logan trying to justify their relationship to her pain-in-the-ass father. When it comes to our two leads, their relationship is completely stable. They trust each other fully, even when faced with her dad’s crazy antics to try and split them up. I couldn’t help but feel that this story line could have been shortened considerably, and just tacked on to the end of book one.
Dude, Are You Kidding Me?
Emily’s dad is one annoying son of a monkey, but I think what I found to be completely unbearable, not to mention slightly unbelievable, was that he was willing to risk his entire relationship with his daughter over something so stupid. For the second time! In the last novel we discovered that Emily ran away from her wealthy family in order to live on the streets of New York because he was trying to control her life. But at the end of book one she went back home to make amends.
In this novel, Emily has moved back to NYC to be with Logan and go to Julliard, but her father tries yet again to control her life. He attempts to bring Emily and her ex back together, and insults Logan whenever possible because he’s not “one of them”. Have you learned nothing?! You just got your daughter back, and now you’re trying to split her up from a boyfriend who treats her with respect and is committed to her completely in order to be with a man who called her stupid. But oooooh, he has money, so he’s worthy of your daughter?! You’re just asking for trouble here buddy!!
The Best of the Best
The absolute best part of this novel was when Emily puts on a performance for school of a song which she created. The lyrics are intended for her dad, but she manages to create a project where Logan, who is deaf, can “see” her music. Not only was this a unique aspect of the book, but it was also one of the first times where we see Emily put a lot of thought and effort into her relationship with Logan. Before this it was always him making the big gesture. It’s also the first time I’ve ever had a narrator of an audio book sing to me. Only…slightly awkward.
Series: The Reed Brothers, book 2. I’m really looking forward to future books which feature Logan’s brothers. Yummy!
Should you read it? I’m happy that Logan and Emily didn’t let her father’s plotting get in the way of their love. I will say though, this almost made the whole story lack any real struggle, and instead her father just remained an annoyance more than anything else. Sweet how things eventually come together, but again, I think all their issues could’ve easily been resolved at the end of book one by adding on an additional chapter or two.
Smut Level: One final scene that really gets the blood pumping.
