Juliet Immortal
review 1: Juliet immortal had a really strong three quarters of the book. The main premise was great the characters are great and I was really getting into the story and loving the direction it was heading in. THEN BOOM it's honestly like WTF, the book does a complete 180 and I don't even know what's going on. I don't want to give anything away but it's really odd. This book probably would have been 5 stars if it wasn't for the disappointing ending.
review 2: I'll admit, I picked this up because I kinda wanted to see a train wreck. I mean, really, Romeo and Juliet were real but he betrayed her to join the dark side and now they are eternal enemies locked in combat over the success of soul mates achieving connection for all time? Bullshit!Really, just using the term "soul
... more mates" in any fiction anymore raises my bullshit meter by 1,000. So that's a lot to overcome. And Jay didn't do it entirely. But she did surprisingly well. Yes, there are soul mates, but they have to actually work to make that connection and they could fail. Interesting stuff was thrown in like the light and dark sides were deliberately created because some assholes wanted to live forever. Which, btw, made both sides evil parasites and the main character actually recognized that! Yay!Now what I want to see is a decision to destroy both sides. The "good guys" really aren't that good. Yes, it's great that they chose to help soul mates get together instead of turning on and killing each other, but if they hadn't set up this light/dark thing, the soul mates wouldn't be in danger to begin with. And the older/powerful members who are receiving the most benefits and hold all the facts (people on the front line like Juliet have no idea this is why things are the way they are) have no problem throwing people like Juliet to the wolves to stay safe. Time after time the gift of information or a bullet would have saved the day and instead they hid. I grant them negative moral high ground points. It's like a rich person knowingly paying their workers less than a living wage, then donating a tiny portion of their profits to a charity for the poor. You made them poor in the first place! You still suck! So, yeah. Jay's focus is on looove, so I'm not going to see a taking-down of these assholes. I'm not sure if I'll bother reading more in this series. Still, interesting ideas and much appreciated that Jay did not pretend her "good guys" were really all that good. less
