review 1: I decided to read Romeo Redeemed by Stacy Jay because I'd read Juliet, Immortal and loved it. I enjoy unique takes on old stories and this series does not disappoint in that department. In my opinion though the fantastic start that Jay did with the book focused on Juliet's immortality was not matched with the book focused on Romeo's immortality.I still believe that Romeo Redeemed was a good book and would recommend it to people who enjoy romance and/or modern retellings of classic stories. What I found lacking in this second book was the "fascinating" factor. I can't name it other than that. There were just things missing in the book. I did appreciate that Stacy Jay makes Romeo Redeemed both a stand alone and a sequel book- that takes considerable s... morekill.
review 2: This book is even better.I love Juliet Immortal so much and I loved this more.At first, I got really confused with what's happening to Juliet. I mean, I really thought she already had her happily ever after but no. It blew my mind that she was sent back in time and the Romeo and Juliet tragedy never happened at all. So I was so confused I swear I thought the author was never going to pull this off. I saw so many flaws and loopholes while reading the story (or not so much loopholes, but confusion to the readers). But wow, the author DID pull it off.First is that, like I said, Juliet went back to time and Romeo and Juliet never happened. I'm thinking that, if that's the case, then Mercenary Romeo and Ambassador Juliet would cease to be. So it didn't make sense that Romeo it still at the twenty-first century. This is where the "realities" come to place. This is a really good thing. It makes sense now. Romeo and Juliet were in different realities. It answers my confusion but still, realities? Really? This would make everything more confusing. And then there's Benvolio. According to the ending of Juliet Immortal, Benvolio finds Juliet in her tomb to say Friar Lawrence died and Romeo ran away with Rosaline. I didn't know the ending of Juliet Immortal would be very significant to the ending of Romeo Redeemed. So it makes sense. Problem is, those ending weren't really the same so I'm thinking maybe Juliet just dreamt of that in the ending of Juliet Immortal (am I right? See? I told you some parts of the book had questions left unanswered).Everything just made sense when Nurse sent Romeo and Ariel back in time. I was happy Romeo and Juliet were able to talk unlike the ending of Juliet Immortal. So everyone had a happy ever after, after all. I'm happy for them. But I wouldn't deny that my heart is still being crushed because I couldn't forget the scene from Juliet Immortal when Romeo fought with Ben because he realized Juliet was in love with Ben. What I mean to say is that, though I really love the endings, everything just seems wrong. It's Romeo and Juliet for crying out loud. I'm expecting, hoping, wishing, praying that THEY would be together at the end but no *dying whale sounds*So if I were the girlfriend of this book, my line would be: "It's not you. It's me."Because I love you but I can't make myself love you entirely because I still want Romeo and Juliet to be together. less
