review 1: This book is a treasure to be read involving a generation we will most likely never see again. I fell in love with Daisy as soon as she decided to fix that shower head herself. I could totally identify with Elizabeth, who made me laugh out loud, and called my own husband "Dart Man" until the mystery was solved. It took a few chapters to get used to the writing style, but then it felt natural and the story flowed smoothly. Thank you Stacey McGlynn for writing a heartwarming gem I will enjoy for years to come.
review 2: I loved this book. I loved its gentleness, the selectively-omniscient point-of-view that allowed me inside some of the characters' heads. I loved the weaving of the stories of all these interconnected lives, and that the author was skillful in jum... moreping between them so that I was never confused where I was or who I was reading about. Is the plot a little contrived? Of course! Is the ending a little too good to be true? Yes. Is this great literature? Probably not. But it is endearing, charming, gentle, and sweet. The main character is an old lady, by turns accepting and irritated by the changes that old age has brought. I fell in love with her, with her spirit that was unquenchable and yet not overwhelming. She is sweet, but not cloying; adventurous, but not blindly so. The writing style does take some getting used to, as the author uses a fragmented style to pull the reader into the thoughts of the characters, and to accent the event-driven narrative. If you can't stand anything resembling stream-of-consciousness, then this probably is not the book for you. less
