review 1: Picture book on grief that captures a child and father's sadness over the death of their mother. The haunting mood and wonderful word choices made me unable to put it down. The illustrations are a mix of cutouts and 3-dimensional buildings and furniture that reminds me of my architect father and his models. The snow, clogs, and pine forest remind me of Norway. I can't wait to give this to our counselors who have asked me many times over the years for good picture books on grief.
review 2: Text to self: In this story the little boy lives with his father and one night he can’t sleep so he curls up with his dad and asks many questions throughout the night. At one point they go outside to see the stars and they both see a shooting star and get to make a wish. W
... morehen I was little I loved to curl up with my dad, and I loved to look at the stars and see of I could find a shooting star to make a wish.Text to text: This book has some similarities to the book Ball by Mary Sullivan because Ball is about a dog that is lonely and just wants someone to play with. When the dog gets someone to play with then the dog is very happy and content to just play with someone. In this story My Father’s Arms are a Boat the little boy is lonely in his room so he goes out to be with his dad and is just content to lay in his father’s arms and talk. So, both the dog and the little boy wanted some company and then they were content with what they were doing with their company.Text to world: There are many children out in the world that don’t have mothers and rely on their fathers to take care of them. Those children tend to form a strong bond with their fathers or mothers of they don’t have a father. Also for any child that is having trouble sleeping at night many parents will let them sleep with them or cuddle up with them for a while before they fall asleep. less
