review 1: I'm not usually a mystery fan, but this seems doable. Maybe it is a paranormal elements that made me more comfortable? When I started I had some trouble getting into the story. It felt like I was missing a large chunk of the history and that chunk was needed to understand. As I read on I realized that the chunk is also missing from the characters. A prevalent story line is about the family finding out who they are and if the curse is real. It's much easier to feel lost when the characters are unsure as well. I just hope the next two novels continue addressing this.
review 2: This should have been billed as a paranormal romantic suspense. Not generally my cup of tea. Neither paranormal nor romantic suspense. But it sounded a little different in that a person ... morewas just going to use their psychic talents to solve a case of missing persons. I can deal with that. Except that the focus of the story strayed far away from that. Even the romantic part took a back seat. It mostly dwelled on the history of her paranormal family and the talents they have. And that some centuries' old "monster" is stalking them from the past. Well this might be fine for some, but certainly a far stretch from what I was expecting. I guess maybe I should have read some reviews first, instead of relying on the blurb written on the book cover. It is really not accurate at all. I believe this is part of a series as well, but I'm not sure I'm going to venture any further. Besides being disappointed in the theme, I felt the story was just to loosely woven. less
