review 1: This is a story similar to " the notebook" in some aspects except that the male lead is the worst boyfriend ever. I can not say what he did because i would have to tell you what ruins the whole book, so i`ll just say this: there is no excuse for getting so drunk (on several ocassions ) that you cant get your girlfriend home an especially for the other horrible horrible thing he did. So if you want to read a story about a girl who finds the courage ( inthe love for a horrible boy) to stand up to her manipulative dad , this is it!It`s sad it`s cute.
review 2: 3.75 stars. This is a fairly short book that’s about a young man and woman who were, despite being pretty young, in love and forced apart by a couple of circumstances which it seemed like they’d never be
... more able to overcome. The refreshing thing about this story is the characters have already established a relationship and it’s about whether or not they can be civil with each other, be friends or have a relationship again. After having not seen each other for a year after Delia’s family moves to Washington, D.C. because her father was elected to the Senate, Tobin and Delia are reunited when she returns to Crawford, Louisiana, for the funeral of Tobin’s brother, Eamon.I don’t know if what kept them apart was supposed to be a mystery that we were shocked to find out once enough hints were dropped, but I knew almost from the get-go what it was. Even though this is a plot occasionally used in movies and books, it was well done here and you really got to see how the even affected both parties and how they’ve dealt with what happened. This story is told alternating between present time and flashbacks, which occur frequently. They’re nice because you get to see the characters’ stories unfold and really get a sense of who they are, but at times it annoyed me because I’d really be into what was going on then, bam, you’re either back in the present or the past and have to wait to find out more about what happened. Also, I didn’t really get a connection between Delia and her hometown friends. Though she supposedly grew up with them, they don’t play much of a part in the flashbacks and in the present they just seem like drunk idiots most of the time.Delia’s father was just an irredeemable asshole and her mother was a useless lush. I really didn’t like either of them and think Delia and her mother should’ve stood up to her father, waaaaay more. Especially considering it’s because of Delia’s mom that her father has the status he does. Tobin’s parents were a complete 180 compared to hers. They always treated Delia like a daughter and were suffering so much over the loss of their son that it was almost painful to read about their lives since his death, though it seems like there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for them. One thing that bugged the hell out of me is that we never found out what happened with Eamon. Why didn’t move off of the tracks? And I think it’s total BS that two friends were there with him and neither tried to force him off the tracks and when the guy, Traive, did want to go get him, his wife wouldn’t let him? What kind of crap is that? I’m pretty sure a guy could get away from his wife and tackle his friend off the tracks to keep him from getting killed. That story was more than a bit stupid and weak. Eamon was really one of my favorite characters in the book and though there’s supposed to be a prequel out featuring him, I don’t have any desire to read it because, what’s the point? Either I think it sucks or end up loving his character even more which will just piss me off because I know it all ends for him.Overall, this was a pretty decent read with a sweet ending. I wouldn’t pay full price for it as a book, but if you can get it for a couple of bucks as an e-book, I highly recommend doing so. less
