review 1: Loved it. A Prequel-Short to a series called Southern Roads. A great introduction to the town of Sweetness and its population of 952 people. This story takes place 10 years before the series, and is about Emory, and the day he went home, on a 5 day leave, to propose to Shelby. A Tornado has different plans for this special day, and leaves the Town completely destroyed. This short had it all. Love, suspense, danger, friendship, a happy ending, and a cliff hanger. What more can you ask for from a Short Story? It was 5 stars, especially for a free download. Best one I've read all night. :D
review 2: Emory Maxwell and Shelby Moon have been inseparable since second grade and childhood sweethearts ever since. Emory joined the Army and Shelby stayed behi... morend in the rural town of Sweetness, Georgia to work in her father's grocery store. Emory is back home on leave for five days and intends to propose to Shelby despite the tensions in their relationship regarding her loyalty towards her father to stay in the town that offers no prospects for the future. But they've been together for so long; she won't say no, will she?Charming albeit corny novella. It wasn't long enough for me to care about the h/h. Emory loves Shelby so much that he's easily frustrated with her unwillingness to choose him over her father, even though she wants to. She doesn't want to hurt either man and wants to remain unconfrontational. Not realistic in my opinion. It takes an F5 tornado to make everyone realize their mistakes. Seeing as this was a prequel to the Southern Roads trilogy, I didn't expect this to be lengthy, but for me it fell short of making me itch to read said trilogy and see the Armstrong brothers (Porter Armstrong is Emory's Army buddy and best friend) rebuild the destroyed town of Sweetness. I may still do it one day. less
