review 1: Loved it! I've read historical fiction before where Julia is depicted as catty and I liked that in this book she was Selene's best friend. She was superficial but I'm glad that there was limited girl drama between them. Also, I liked her depiction of several of the other main characters. This was a fast read but I do wish that she had left out the magical aspects. I think that Selene's story is very intriguing without adding the mystical and fake. Entertaining read!
review 2: I could only imagine the sadness and terror Selene really felt when she realized her mother was going to kill herself. ... mores written through the eyes of a ten-year-old girl who is taken from her home, bound in chains, paraded through the streets with stones hurled at her, and brought up in the court of vicious Romans. I love Helios for his hot-headedness and Philadelphos was adorable. Loved Lily of the Nile. less
