review 1: I really enjoyed this. Yes, I did wonder if there was going to be a threesome at some point, since there was so much that pointed to it, but it was different and acceptable that this didn't pan out.Loved the characters and secondary characters, and the location-as-character. Sam definitely had a strong, quirky voice. I suppose that being a late-teen with all those hormones and yearning after his straight best friend could mess with him! He obviously wasn't thinking right, most of the time. Plus just being at a new school (first week of college) and not being all that articulate or socially secure adds to it. He was a lot of fun, poor guy, with all that going on. And his decency came out in his actions, and made him totally sympathetic, despite and because of all his... more little idiosyncrasies. Loved Jeff, the crouching rabbit, hidden tiger! Just adorable as the geeky genius with a rough past.Reed, indeed, was a little harder to like, since he was acting a bit odd (with some reason, as we later found out). But he seemed like a good guy. Perceptions might have been affected by the expectation that he might flip and become part of a threesome... I enjoyed this so much that I went off to download "The Broken Heart". It was very nice to read a bit about a few of the secondary characters that were mentioned in "The Three of Us." I hope to read more about these characters and the cool Florida coastal town and university in future!
review 2: I'm not sure what I'm thinking about this one. It's a very complex story and while I appreciate this very much I think compressing it into a week and a short story didn't do the story justice. It was difficult with so many different characters introduced in a very short time frame, there were some time leaps I would have rather liked to be filled and the sudden falling in love didn't feel real. I also couldn't feel the spark between sam and Jeff, no chemistry for me there, there was more between Sam and Reed. Nevertheless it was entertaining and I appreciated as well, that it didn't turn into a threesome like the picture might suggest. less

This story was a little bit muddled and it wasn't till the end before it clicked for me.
