review 1: This was a great book for me as a Christian, husband, father, and man. I love the approach of this book to all men, calling us to be men of resolution who will stand firm as followers of Christ. It explores the implications of doing so in all areas of life, and shares insights into what this looks like for men willing to take this stand. It is hard and challenging and often uncomfortable. This is not a book to take lightly or to gloss over and then stick on the shelf. This book hit me between the eyes in several ways.As a man, I have a tremendous responsibility. I'm called to be a leader in my home and community. In order to do that, I have to first have a solid foundation in my own relationship with Jesus Christ. This was good for me to be challenged in this area.... more I had to think long and hard about my walk with Jesus and what that looks like. Why is praying so hard? Why do I not always desire to spend time in the Bible? Why is it so easy for me to make excuses instead of pursuing God?I also need to take my calling as a leader very seriously. I am leaving a legacy for my family, for the generations that come after me. What is my legacy going to be? How am I pointing my wife and kids to Jesus? How am I setting an example for them? How am I being the hands and feet of Jesus in my home? It starts in the home. It's more than being the provider for my family, though that's a part of it. It is being a husband that loves my wife unconditionally and selflessly and demonstrates that love through my actions, responses, words, etc. I fail in that every day! It is being a father that loves my children and demonstrates that Christlike love through the time I spend with them and the way I interact with them as much as demonstrating for them how to have a quiet time and go to church. I need to love my kids so much better than I do!I also need to lead at work and in other areas of my life. I can't be afraid to stand firm for Jesus Christ wherever I am. I need to keep Him in focus in the work that I do, in the activities I participate in, in all the decisions that I make. As a man, I am a leader, and I need to remember this. Above all, I need to give God the glory for everything good that comes out of my life. I need to trust Him for my kids and grandkids, etc. I need to trust Him for my marriage and career. I need to trust Him, seek Him, stand firm for Him, and live for Him. I can't do it alone. Now I need to find some other men to do this with. This is not easy, but it is very good.
review 2: Overall a very good book. I think the chapter on marriage impacted me the most. The picture of how I, as a man, am supposed to be treating my wife, was absolutely beautiful! The only downfall of the book is it's written by someone who comes from a baptist background, which is ok, but I found some of the teaching to be old school "performance based" teaching. I read it as part of the 8 week study called Honor Begins at Home. All in all the best thing I can say about this book is it stirred me to want to be better at my role of man, husband and father....and that's saying a lot! less
