review 1: I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't the greatest thing ever, but it was very entertaining and interesting. I enjoy historical fiction, and this is kind of historical, magical fiction, which is a genre I am starting to read more and more of. The book wasn't perfect. There were quite a few typos and the story dragged in a few places. In some ways it felt like the story was being stretched so that it could fit over the outline instead of just being written as the story it wanted to be. And there are undeniable moments that just make you think of the Highlander. But, I enjoyed it greatly, I would try another of Mr. Leigh's books, and I would recommend this to anyone looking for something fun who likes fantasy/historical fiction.
review 2: I received a copy
... moreof this for free from Goodreads First Read program. Lively plot keeps your interest, some characters could use more development. Central idea is intriguing. He does warn you up front that he is playing with history, so when he does it is not as jarring as it would be. Some of the costume details should have been closer checked, though. I did enjoy it and after finishing, did wonder about what may be in store in future. less
