review 1: I liked this book and liked the fact that a simple, "please" can get you good things. I like that it teaches manners. And it's nice and simple. the illustrations are really nice too. The only thing I found wrong is I didn't realize the lesson of the story until the end of the book and it hit me after he gave the donuts to the lemur why he got the donuts when no one else did. Throughout the whole book, I thought that panda was just being mean because he wanted to. Which is not a really nice thing to teach to kids and although kids are incredibly smart, I feel that some might not catch up right away at the end. I didn't quite catch on for a moment when I read it.I love the lesson it teaches. The love the simplicity but I feel like the lesson could have been presented better ... morethroughout the entire book and not just near the end. And also in my own opinion, I feel like if you offer someone something and they say what they want, whether you say please or not, you should give it to them. It's kind of mean to offer something and then say no and then not tell them why either. That's just me.
review 2: This is a great book for preschoolers thru 1st grade. My great grandson will love it, and I loved the way it encouraged manners without harping. I was most impressed when the Panda refused to share with the animals that wouldn't say please and thank you, but didn't tell them why he'd changed his mind about sharing. Too often children are encouraged not to be mannerly because most people would say "I'll share, but next time you must remember to say please and thank you". This author realizes that letting people, even children, figure out what they did wrong will make the lesson harder to ignore.Thanks for a terrific book. less
