review 1: I am a fan of Earle's music and acting and I am now a fan of his writing. Although this is a little bit of a slow build, there came a point when I wanted to stop whatever I was doing and go back to reading this. This was just a really unique book with unique characters including the ghost of Hank Williams. I recommend this to all of Earle's fans and also to those seeking something different in their fiction. It's a quick read too.
review 2: The book was a spontaneous buy in a 2£ book shop and to be honest the main reason I bought it was the cover. After reading the title and the reviews on the back I still had no idea what it actually was about but it was definitely not what I expected it to be and maybe that's the reason why I couldn't really empathise with
... morethe characters throughout the whole story. Generally it was a nice read but at some points a little bit depressing, so probably not a book you should read when you're in a sad mood anyway. The language was fitting for the time/setting/residents but as a non-native english speaker I was concerned about subconciously remembering phrases or words that are grammatically incorret (which is probably a stupid thing to be worried about but the thought was bothering me the whole book through). In general it was an interesting book with interesting characters but, for me, it's none of those books you can read multiple times. less

I might have liked it better, if Hubert Selby Jnr wrote it. Sorry Mr Earle...
