review 1: This is is really funny. Let's get that out of the way. Many giggles were had. But it's one joke for 300 pages. And a super cynical joke at that. And when it ends with a reductive, tedious lecture about "your generation" that is given a standing ovation, it becomes predictable, preachy and boring. There was no care to explore why this entire generation of young people might be cynical (just writing this sweeping statement makes me furious) it's just stated that they are (and then applauded). 'They' should be more like their forebears who actually understand poetry and art. Give me a break. Just scream "get off my lawn" and sit back on your rocking chair already. Yes it was really funny. And I really enjoyed reading it until I realised it was an old man whin... moreging.
review 2: This book was amazing, specially due to the fact of it not being at all pretentious. Tarlaw's disregard for the truth gives us a truer view of literature and the writing game. With more down-to-earth motivations, he inspires as well as scares me (for the realization of common areas with him). And the last chapter, wow! It really brings it all together beautifully. It's a very easy book, with very simple language, yet a message is delivered successfully. less

I don't think I even finished this book. Really stupid. Couldn't follow the story.
