review 1: Ok...I didn't read every word of this book but it is really nice. Steve Jenkins has wonderful illustrations created with different types of paper. The book includes 300 interesting animals and includes lots of fascinating facts. The book is divided by characteristics common to animals like defenses, family, animal extremes, etc. In the back is an alphabetical list of all the animals included with a few facts about them as well as a glossary and a section on how he creates his books.
review 2: I love the paper collage illustrations in this book. The large illustrations with short facts about the animals makes this book very readable and fun. The only reason I am giving this book 3 stars instead of 5 is because a few of the facts are incorrect or incomplete to t
... morehe point that they become misleading. In many of these instances, one additional sentence to clarify the information is all that would be needed. For instance, sea stars (aka, star fish) can grow an entirely new starfish when cut into small pieces; however only if that piece contains part of the center (central disc) which holds the vital organs. If you cut off the tip of one arm that will not grow a whole new sea star.Or the fact about glowworms. While they can be the larva of a species of gnat. They can also refer to the female firefly, as well as the larval form of a variety of other species. There were a few others and I think that it is better to give children the correct information in the first place rather than only part of the information leaving someone else to correct them. Children are much more clever than we often give them credit for and they are capable of understanding these distinctions. Just talk to any 4-year old who loves dinosaurs and you will know that is true. less

A little bit of everything with a great insight into the book making process at the end.
