review 1: I can't help but compare this book to Rex Wrecks It by Ben Clanton. Both star a Tyrannosaurus who wrecks. In Rex, the dinosaur is reminiscent of 90% of the toddlers I know. In Bardhan-Quallen's story, the dinosaurs are older, and while Tyrannosaurus' actions start out as being willful wrecking, he still wrecks out of klutziness while trying to make amends with his friends. In Rex, the friends work together to building something they can all enjoy-- and all destroy it together in the end too. Tyrannosaurus takes ownership for his actions and attempts to fix them on his own. After he still wrecks, his friends do step in and clean up the mess. I'm not a big fan of Ohora's illustrations, but I do like the color palette, the taller size of the book, and the way the word "wrecks... more!" is emphasized in the illustrations. Dino loving kids will enjoy seeing many of their favorites star as Tyrannosaurus' classmates, and caregivers will appreciate the pronunciation guides on the end papers. Of the two, I personally prefer Rex Wrecks It, but I think kids will enjoy this one too.
review 2: This delightfully humorous picture book features young anthropomorphized dinosaurs attending school. While the other dinosaurs work hard in class, everything the Tyrannosaurus touches ends up becoming a big mess. At first it might seem that he is simply a destructive sort, but as readers move through the pages, they will realize that he's just accident-prone and deserves some compassion. Young readers will surely love the rhyming text, the adorable dinosaurs and the digitally-enhanced illustrations, created with Sumi ink and brush on watercolor paper. Just about anyone would enjoy the play on words with Rex and wrecks as well as the kindness of some of the other young dinosaurs. less

Does not feel like a new idea, but it is sure to be a hit with three and four-year old boys.
