review 1: In this final brief installment of the Lost Cow series, we return to the lives of Luke and Simon, the owners of the ranch. For those who read the first three books in the series, you all know that Luke hurt his knee in a flash flood, and he was unable/unwilling to have surgery to repair the damage. I. This book, we learn that the surgery has become mandatory due to the intense pain that has developed. After having the surgery, Luke's recovery process is very long and slow. To aid in the recovery process, Simon buys Luke a replacement horse named Gomorrah. To sort of wrap up the story, the two ranch owners, who have been a couple for well over a decade, decide that they really want to be married. Being from Texas, however, same sex marriage is not available. The two decide ... morethat a commitment ceremony performed by their pastor and friend, Noah, in front of family and friends would have to be enough. That should have been the end of the book, and the end of the series.But, for some reason, the author decides to throw in a chapter about 50+ year old love letters, that look like they are going to be used to prepare some sort of prequel to the Lost Cow saga. Suffice it to say that I thought the last chapter cheapened what could have been a sweet ending to this series of books: it was a major downgrade for the book. 2.5 stars from me.
review 2: I got this novella straight from Dreamspinner Press on release day, and it was worth waiting for. As others have said, not as much sex in this one (some would say thank heavens), but for me, it made a nice change to see how the guys were getting on without all the 'do me now' moments! So glad Luke finally came to his senses and had the op, and there was Si (as usual, wonderful man) ready to pick up the pieces, but somehow this time, I don't think there would have been much of that, they would have been too happy! less
