review 1: This is a modern retelling of Jane Eyre. The author did come up with an interesting way of modernizing the classic, but it felt hollow. The classic is so filled with angst and intense conversations and situations. This seemed like it was just an exercise in trying to modernize the old without any nuances to the characters. The heroine's personality was flat and I couldn't see any reason why Rochester would have fallen in love with her. The ending seemed completely rushed like the author just wanted to hurry up and end it. It seemed like a lost opportunity in exploring Anne's character. I'm sorry, but it just seemed a shallow interpretation of the classic.
review 2: Having read Pride & Princesses and Wuthering Heights by Summer Day, and enjoyed them, I was
... morelooking forward to reading this offering by the author. Jane Eyre is my all time favourite classic novel and I liked the way this modern retelling, although bringing the tale into the now, retained the original story line, remaining true to characters and "feel". I enjoyed reading this version and will look forward to reading more by this author. less
