review 1: What a cute and funny story. I love Brownie Groundhog and her cleverness. This would be a fun one to read in storytime. Some of the humor may be over the Preschoolers, but I think they would get the groundhog tricking the fox. School age would really enjoy it. I really like the illustrations, too. A fun recommendation from a co-worker that I'll keep on hand during my Animal/Groundhog storytime.2/1/12 I decided to try this on the 2nd, smaller, unresponsive group. It actually worked. With less kids, they were able to see the pictures longer and better. They completely understood the groundhog tricking the fox and them becoming friends. It also led much better into the groundhog craft than the porcupine book did in the 1st group.
review 2: Brownie Groundhog wakes
... moreup in February to discover that there are still six more weeks of winter. Who comes along but a hungry fox, eager to gobble Brownie up? Brownie holds the fox off cleverly until the two animals become friends.A story that is perfect for a Groundhog Day readaloud.“Brownie picked up her basket and crunched across the clearing, leaving tracks in the snow. The fox scampered along beside her.‘I don’t suppose you’ve noticed any signs of spring,’ said Brownie. The fox’s tummy grumbled. ’You,’ he said.” less

I loved the great use of interesting words in this book. I'll be using it in writer's workshop.

Illustrations and story are fantastic- fairly long for my girls, but they both sat entranced.
