review 1: The Paper Marriage is one of those books that i picked up at the library, skimmed the dust jacket, and thought, "ok, it could be interesting." Turns out it was more than interesting, it was amazing. This book runs you through the full gamut of emotions. It's a cliche, but I laughed, I cried... and i very rarely get teary-eyed over a book!Ann has been married for a long time. Unfortunately, she's also been alone for the last 12 years. Her husband has been in a coma for all those years, and she's built her life around taking care of him and, to some degree, his parents. Tom is a former baseball player who just moved in next door to Ann. His ex just informed him he's taking their 16 year old daughter, Mer, for the summer, after Mer has been kicked out of school. He does his b... moreest, but he barely knows his daughter and has no idea what to do with her or how to keep her out of trouble.Wound around and through the main characters, there are puppies and parties, nosy neighbours, an aging hippie, and a young man who is far smarter than his years.overall, it could have been a cheesy, Lifetime movie-of-the-week, but the author has a real gift for making it feel like you're a part of the characters lives.
review 2: Hmm dont know what to say about this book I felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie, and not one of my favorites about the all the cliches imaginable: vulnerable lonely basically widowed beautiful great cook meets impossibly handsome and charming clueless father of rebellious teenager that meet, hate each other then fall in love..The story is as old as time and this time not as well written and engaging..I fould the characters flat and the story dragged on with uninteresting supposedly shocking reveals but never really popped anywhere..the "romance" was lukewarm at best and you never really understand anything about their surburban drama..I have read better romance and want more LOL..recommended for those who just want to read about everyday life, marriage, dogs, husbands, kids--suburbia no thrills or kills :) less
