review 1: Generally, this is a fun read. Quinn is meticulous in worldbuilding and a master of the writing craft. For readers who like fast-paced adventure that lets teens fantasize about being superhuman this book is perfect. I give it four-stars because I am somewhat allergic to the superhuman-teen thing. That's a popular trend with things like The Hunger Games and Divergent around. And those who love those books will like this. I had the same problem with those books. Quinn's is in fact better than either of those better-known series in craft, plot, originality and character development. My nitpick with Closed Hearts is that parts of of it feel like it was written to be made into a video game. I like books to be books first and optimized to be a fun and engaging read. The video-ga... moreme-ish elements detract from character development and story flow. I think the characters and the emotion involved could have been stronger and more "real" to the reader if the characters were less superhuman and the action less like a video game and more like wrenching reality. But that is my personal pet-peeve. Other than that the book is very good and should appeal to those readers who like The Hunger Games and similar books.
review 2: This is an awesome continuation of the Mindjack Trilogy. Kira is dealing with the aftermath of the decisions she made in book one and the backlash that came with that decision. She is hated by both jackers and mindreaders and the government is after her. She is captured, tortured and she suffers so much in this book. She makes a lot of bad decisions and she trusts too easily that promises made to her will be kept. She is forced to do things that she doesn't want to do. We are introduced to Julian in this book and I must say I really like him. He is smart, strong, sensitive and a very good leader. This is a wonderful book. less
