review 1: This nonfiction picture book tells the story of a small village in an African country. The village was barely surviving with very little food and water. A scientist, Dr. Gordon Sato, came in a planted a Mangrove Tree. The tree turned out to grow in the salt-water, and it also helped feed the animals and provide prosperity for the village. The women of the village helped plant a large amount these trees until a forest of Mangrove Trees was eventually grown. The illustrations are made with a large amount of mediums, including cardboard, construction paper, tissue paper, and more. It added a lot of texture and depth to the story. As a reader, I felt as if I was included in on the project. And at the end of the book, real pictures of the village are shown along with explanatio... morens of how the village is doing today. It is a very informative and interesting book.
review 2: Great educational and factual book on a village (Hargigo)in Africa who needed food. Everyone was hungry, even the goats. A scientist, Dr. Gordon Sato came to the village and changed the lives of the people living in it. The book describes how Sato saved the people by showing the how to plant Mangrove trees! It involves the process and includes real photos. The illustrations are beautiful, cut paper I believe. Great story, very educational. less
