review 1: I thought this was a fun read. It sucked me in from the beginning and I had to keep reading to see what would happen next. When Scarlet arrives in Mexico for her sisters wedding she gets into the wrong cab at the airport her life is changed forever. I liked Scarlet; she was easy to relate to. Especially her bookworm tendencies. She was likable and it was fun to see her take charge when she was clearly way out of her comfort zone. When she enters the cab she come face to face with hottie Luke, who she thinks her sister has set her up with. Luke is actually a special agent also in Mexico for a wedding. He thinks Scarlet is his contact/partner on his mission, and it takes awhile for them to figure things out. I liked Luke, he was good for Scarlet. The two had good chemistry a... morend it was fun watching their story unfold. There were a couple things that didn’t make sense to me, I won’t mention them because I don’t want to give away any of the story. They were easy to overlook though and didn’t distract me from the story. I liked the side characters, Benito and Lucia. Benito was just a romantic at heart. It was actually kind of funny to see how passionate he was about romance. Lucia was also likable, she had definitely gotten herself way over her head. I was hoping to hear a little more about them at the end. I liked the side story with Scarlet’s sister and how that all worked out. It’s Christian fiction, but those elements were pretty subtle and not at all over the top. It never felt preachy for me, which is hard to find in Christian lit. Overall, I thought it was very enjoyable and I look forward to reading more from this author. Contnet: Clean.
review 2: Undercover Pursuit by Susan May Warren had me intrigued from the first page. I examined it along with several other books I recently downloaded, just looking through the first few pages for their hooks, the ways that they connected with the reader. Wow, did U.P. ever connect! From the get-go, I had trouble putting it down. What starts out as a lark, a curious case of mistaken identity, quickly becomes an desperate attempt for protection and a life-threatening situation. Luke Dekker is undercover to nab a major player in a drug cartel. He's not that thrilled that it has to be done at a wedding, though, and he's even less thrilled about his partner for the weekend. The beautiful agent/bridesmaid pretending to be his fiancee made the wedding party accessible to him. Only the girl, Scarlett Hanson, isn't his contact. She isn't even an agent and has no training for the task she must complete. The twists in the plot appear impossible, but Ms. Warren masterfully unravels the strands before tying them into a satisfying bow. less
