review 1: I fell in love with Straights writing. I had the pleasure of getting this book for free when I met the author and I had never heard of her, never read her books so I wasnt sure what to expect. First of all Straight herself is hilarious snd I thought she was wonderful and as for her novel I repeat the sentiment; wonderful. The story of Fantine a travel journalist who sways from her family and lives a solitary life until she is forcefully dgragged into is beautiful. The writing his articulate and poetic. I especially loved the detail in the book. I recommend this to everyone.
review 2: I liked this book although it took me a while to get all the ancestors straight in my head. Very realistic. Straight is a good writer - her descriptions of Hurrican Katrina made ... moreme realize just what a disaster that storm really was and what so many of the people in that area had to go through. I'm sure they still haven't received enough help. This is the first book I've read by this author but I might check out Amazon and see what else she has written. less
