review 1: Susan Vaught is by far one of my favorite authors. Years ago, I randomly picked up her book, "Trigger" and have been hooked ever since. With her background of being a psychologist, I believe she is able to give the characters in her novels a genuine voice that entices readers to her prose. "Freak Like Us" is no exception. Although, the narrator/protagonist Jason can be difficult to understand at times, he is a schizophrenic teen that has many inner voices, it doesn't deter from the compelling novel that Vaught churned out. Packed with mystery, grief, and hope this book is definitely worth the read.

... moreious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Or how about One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? Freaks Like Us is not easy reading with the stream of consciousness and voices in Freak's head. Some people need an introduction to labyrinthian narrative and this book might be what the doctor orders for them. Compelling mystery helps. less
