review 1: Set in Never, Kentucky on the grounds of Lincoln Psychiatric Hospital, where the very walls seem to breed the thin places that divide this world and the next. In fact, Lincoln seems to be teeming with them. Horrible things keep breaking through and many of the patients in the hospital seem to be nothing more than people who have the misfortune to see these otherworldly beings. Since "normal" people can't see them, they think them crazy. And, maybe ultimately, they are. The book is divided into 4 parts that represent four different character's points of view. I don't know why this bothered me. I usually have no problem with alternating view points. But something about the way the story was told in stops and starts really broke up the flow. I found it kind of distracting and... more choppy and it really took me out of the story. Would have preferred one integrated book.
review 2: I thought this was a very good book. I loved the plot and characters of the story. I loved how this book was split up into different parts and each part was the story of the four main characters. All of the characters had a story to tell, but it tied all of them together. Once I got started I could not put the book down. I had to find out what happens next. I only refused to read the book before bed because I thought it might actually give me nightmares. less
