review 1: I really enjoyed this book about a woman struggling with her relatinoships with her husband and young son. She finds herself questioning her relationship with her husband in the wake of strange sleep episodes he has, and in the wake of having a child that she desired more than he. Her character sometimes annoyed me--she was very self obsessed--but overall I liked the book. I was particularly struck by the nature of sleep disorders suffered by various characters in the book. It was also interesting to think about how these issues affected the young child. It was fun to read about life in Stiltsville, off the coast of Miami, too.
review 2: 3.75 rounded up to 4. Susanna Daniel is an excellent writer. She builds the story like a intricate Lego project. Each brick o... moref detail makes the plot grow bigger and bigger. A husband, wife and their small mute son are fleeing the Midwest to resettle in Florida at the wife's family home. Slowly their story unravels through the painful voice of the wife and mother. She is one tortured narrator. To get the full impact of simmering terror, one should go into it like I did knowing nothing and suffer the reveal. less
